Today I want to talk about Christian/Bible-based jokes and “humorous” Christian memes and give some pause for thought.
Whether they’re created to “lighten Christianity up” or simply to poke fun at God, biblical stories, religion, etc., I believe that there is no place for humor or lightheartedness when it comes to God.
Just as we’re commanded to not take the Lord’s name in vain {because we must show reverence and respect to His name}, we must also respect the holiness of God, His Word. There is no humor in the gospel, any other Bible story or any of God’s attributes. Jokes about Peter at “the pearly gates” are misleading anyway - it’s not Peter who “decides” whether we get into heaven.
Before you dismiss this as something “harmless”, please consider that there’s no humor in the Bible, apart from the obvious joy {which isn't really considered "humor"} that comes from the praise and worship of the Lord. Every event from Genesis to Revelation is serious and sobering. The Bible is God’s Word, telling us where we came from, where we’re going, and how we’re commanded to live so that we inherit God’s eternal kingdom, saved from eternal destruction. It tells us how Satan has tried to thwart God’s plan to save us since the fall of mankind. Satan knows the seriousness of God’s judgment, and he wants to influence us to rebel, mock, and deny God so that we will be separated from Him forever. He rejoices when we laugh at God, because he never respected God and he doesn’t want us to, either. Anything that elicits laughter at God’s expense or shows disrespect toward Him is blasphemous.
I already know that many reading this will be thinking "Christians are no fun" or "Wow, lighten up a little". I don't have to prove how "fun" I am or defend my ability to laugh; my focus is on my relationship with the Lord. I care more about doing what’s right in His eyes than seeking worldly approval.
If, after reading this, you're questioning whether you should laugh/share any jokes/memes with a Christian or biblical aspect, I would strongly advise against it, but that decision should come from a place of personal conviction from within. I suggest praying on it and listening for the Lord's guidance through His Spirit. Ultimately, the Lord will be the One who judges each of us on that day, according to what He sees in our heart.
His judgment is final.
God bless! ✝️❤️

whatever a person sows, this he will also reap.
